Tenth edition of Dab-a-Doo

Last Wednesday, March 9, 2016, the tenth edition of Dab-a-Doo was held in Barcelona, the third edition hosted in this city. Dab-a-doo is, probably, the most important extract competition held in Europe, organised by Mila from the Pollinator Company, historical figure of hashish manufacturing. Some of the guys of Alchimia's team could attend this event. Here you have a summary of this splendid tasting session.

The 275 attendants of this year's edition were split into 175 judges and 100 VIPs. The tickets were sold out via internet in record time a month before the event, so you had to be fast to enter it. The competition took place in the NPK cannabis social club, in Barcelona. We could enjoy the performances of artists like DJ Mapuche Sound, DJ Rambla and DJ MK Ultra.

Several personalities of the cannabis scene also attended the event, such as Jorge Cervantes, Marc Emery, Bubbleman, Marimberos, DNA or Douglas from TH Seeds. The judges received a gift bag with cannabis cookies, BHO capsules, seeds, a small bubbler for those who chose to purchase it, the traditional commemorative t-shirt and, most important, a fabric case with all the concentrate samples.

As a new feature of this year's edition, we could enjoy the work of the glass blowers from the International Flame Off, who performed amazing demonstrations of their skills during the event. Congratulations to all these borosilicate glass artists for your mastery!

2016 Dab-a-Doo samples

Each judge received 35 samples to rate, split into 3 categories: extractions made with solvent (BHO, etc), solventless resin concentrates (water hash, dry sift, etc) and, for the first time, Rosin, a relatively new technique in which resin glands are extracted through heat and pressure.  The samples were labeled with a number or a letter, so there was no way to know the strain or extract artist. There were several dabstations so judges could easily handle the stickiest resins. The samples were rated according to appearance, smell, taste and effect.

We could observe a great difference in the quality of the samples: while we had some splendid extracts, we also found butane oils which were not properly purged, or some hashish samples of green colour and poor quality. We believe this stuff should not happen in such a significant event.

A suggestion for the organisation of the cup would be performing some type of pre-selection of the samples and discard those which don't meet the quality standard of this event. Having all the samples tested for solvent or pesticide traces would also be great, as happens in the Emerald Cup in the USA.
