Growing Purple Punch x Dosidos from Philosopher Seeds

Purple Punch x Do-si-Dos, a resin-covered beast

Purple Punch x Do-Si-Dos by Philosopher Seeds is one of those strains that seduce you at first sight and win your heart at the first puff. Naturally, in Alchimia we wanted to test it and let you know the results, which we can now reveal that are more than satisfactory!

A beautiful Indica-dominant hybrid with a tree structure and purple in colour, two traits clearly inherited from its parents. Easy to grow and with a meaningful outcome, especially in terms of resin quantity and quality, its vigorous development makes it an interesting plant for cultivation techniques that require some pruning, and it's ideal for both SCROG and SOG.

The flowers obtained after the harvest are dense and so high in terpenes that makes your mouth water just by smelling them. The aroma is a mixture of different nuances, sweet floral notes with light touches of spice and lemon, accompanied by a slightly earthy fragrance. The bouquet is superb, and fills the palate with a dense flavor that can almost be chewed, very appetizing!

The high is intense and lasting, given this strain?s great power (22% THC) and big resin production. You must be careful when using Purple Punch x Do-Si-Dos, for as Swiss chemist and doctor Paracelsus rightly said: "the dose makes the poison"; properly dosed, this marijuana has a wonderful psychedelic effect you can enjoy however you want: for relaxation, music, nature, sex...

Its generous production of glandular trichomes makes the Purple Punch x Do-Si-Dos an ideal plant for resin extractions, both with and without solvents. With the help of a rosin press, some specimens have produced up to 25% of the pressed flower's total weight in resin. The quality is also beyond doubt!

Cultivation and lineage of Purple Punch x Do-si-Dos

All these traits reveal the unmistakable heritage of its ancestors: on the one hand, the Do-Si-Dos Norcal Cut (the father), a cross between two strains of proven quality: OGKB, (a powerful phenotype of the famous Girl Scouts Cookies), and the acclaimed Face Off by Archive Seeds. The other parent, Purple Punch Alpha Cut (the mother), is a strain that is currently causing a real stir in the American cannabis market, and a mix of two highly respected US genetics: Grand Daddy Purps and Larry OG, aka Lemon Larry.

This strain stands out for requiring very few nutrients, and having a highly steady growth, which is very vigorous from its 3rd week of life onwards. We recommend providing it with a short vegetative phase of 2-3 weeks after seed germination. If you are growing it from a clone, it can start its flowering period as soon as you have transplanted it, especially in a SOG cultivation.

Its flowering phase is relatively short, between 60 and 65 days. Once this plant reaches its 4th week of flowering, it will take on a purple colour that will contrast with the copious white resin that covers the surrounding flowers and leaves, producing a very beautiful and spectacular result. Something you must take into account during the late flowering phase is that, due to the high density of its flowers, the plant will need low humidity levels in order to avoid certain fungi such as powdery mildew and botrytis.

Purple Punch x Do-Si-Dos grow report

For this crop, carried out by our partner Eric MED OG King, we employed 18 feminised seeds of Purple Punch x Do-si-Dos, and the SOG cultivation method.

Seed germination

We followed the traditional wet paper towel method, with a 100% germination rate after 48 hours. Once germinated, the seeds were planted in 1,4L pots and placed under 20W LED lamps for 5 days.

  • Germination medium: Paper towel
  • Post germination transplantation: 2 days (18 germinated and transplanted seeds, 100% germination)
  • Growing medium (substrate): MonkeyEcoSoil + Mycotrex (Mycorrhizae)
  • Container: 1.4L square black pot
  • Photoperiod: 18/6 ? 20W LED
  • 1st stage (cotyledons): 5 days
  • Irrigation: Mineral water (CE 0.4 - pH 6.5)
  • Irrigation additives: Emerald Harvest Root Wizard
  • Temperature: 20º
  • Humidity: 70%-80%

Growing stage

The growing phase went completely smoothly. We used a CMH/LEC LUMATEK 315W Aurora kit during the whole phase, and we obtained a healthy and exuberant growth. During this stage, we initiated the feeding and regular applications for pest control.

  • Container: 1.4L square black pot
  • Growing medium (substrate): Monkey EcoSoil + Mycotrex (Mycorrhizae)
  • Photoperiod:18/6 ? CMH/LEC Lumatek Aurora 315W
  • Total days of growth from seed: 26 days
  • Irrigation: 1-day mineral water ? 1-day mineral water with fertilizer. (CE 0.4 ? pH 6.5)
  • Liquid fertilizer: Emerald Harvest Cali Pro Grow A & B 2 Part
  • Pest control: 1 application of Propolix Cinam + GREEN HOPE BioProtector
  • Temperature: 18º-23º
  • Humidity: 60%

Flowering stage

The flowering phase (our favourite!) surprised us the most in this new hybrid by Philosopher Seeds... its resin production was absolutely exceptional! Week after week, we were able to see how the plants were being completely covered by a layer of resin that, at first sight, informed us of its great quality. The plants didn?t need a lot of fertilizers, and we could harvest all of them free of pests and disease. A real treat we will be repeating without a shadow of a doubt!

  • Container: 3.4L Anti-Spiral square black pot
  • Growing medium (substrate): Monkey EcoSoil Mycotrex + (Mycorrhizae)
  • Photoperiod: 12/12 + CMH/LEC Lumatek Aurora 315W
  • Total days of flowering: 60 days
  • Final plant height: 110cm, with the pot
  • Irrigation: 1-day mineral water ? 1-day mineral water with fertilizer. (CE 0.4 ? pH 6.5)
  • Liquid fertilizer: Emerald Harvest Cali Pro Grow A & B 2 Part
  • Pest control: 1 application of Propolix Cinam + GREEN HOPE BioProtector
  • Temperature: 15º-27º
  • Humidity: 50%-60%

Wow. Pretty cool yield. It looks like this has a pretty good turnout. How'd you come up with the idea to cross these?

Thanks Sara, we're very happy with how it turned out! The idea was to make a really intensely flavoured and resinous hybrid, with the Dosidos working to increase the potency of Purple Punch and keep resin yields high for hash makers. All the best and happy growing!
