Cannabigerol or CBG is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid, usually found in fairly small quantities in most cannabis varieties and which is gaining more and more interest for its medical cannabis potential.
The acid form of Cannabigerol, CBGA, is in fact the precursor for the main cannabinoids THC, CBD and CBC. This means that, when the mature flowers of most cannabis varieties are tested, CBG is usually only present in trace amounts, averaging at around 1% across all recreational strains. This is because, for the most part, the CGBA will have already been converted to the principal cannabinoids during the ripening process.
The medical properties of CBG are still being studied and, as cannabis legalisation spreads across the world, we can expect to learn much more about this non-psychoactive cannabinoid. This lack of an intoxicating effect is one of the main factors that has aroused much of the interest in cannabigerol, allowing for the treatment of many illnesses without causing the "stoned" side effects traditionally associated with cannabis use.

With most cannabis varieties containing CBG levels of just 1% or less, cannabigerol is a relatively rare and minor cannabinoid, but despite this, its well-publicised therapeutic benefits have recently led to a surge in consumers seeking high-CBG varieties. This, in turn, has led to more growers looking for seeds of suitable varieties and, logically, breeders have been developing varieties with ever-increasing CBG levels in an effort to supply this rise in demand.
