Kokopelli presents the Yellow Moon and Stars Watermelon by Kokopelli, Citrullus lanatus. This watermelon variety is characterised by an exceptional fruit which can reach an impressive weight of 10-12kg. The skin presents a unique dark green colour, decorated with numerous spots, one of which is large, resembling a starry sky illuminated by the moon, hence its evocative name.
The yellow flesh makes this watermelon even more special, offering an exceptional taste experience. The flesh is very sweet, offering a delicious flavour that will delight anyone who tastes it.
There are two options to cultivate this variety. Sowing the seeds in pots at a temperature between 20-30°C approximately 6 weeks before planting them in open ground. Once the last frost has passed, the plants can be transplanted into compost-enriched planting holes, spaced 1.5m apart. Alternatively, the seeds can be sown directly into the open ground when the soil is well warmed up and the outside temperature no longer falls below 15°C.
Sowing times vary according to the cultivation method. For sowing sheltered, they can be sow in March or April. If cultivated in open ground, it can be done in April, May or June. The harvesting period is from July to October.
This watermelon thrives in full sun and has average water requirements. It thrives ideally in rich, rich, warm, well-drained, humus-rich, sandy soils.
Yellow Moon and Star Watermelon is characterised by an elongated, firm, and yellow fruit of about 40-60cm long. The plants reach up to 100-200cm and have a runner habit. The foliage is trimmed, which adds to their visual appeal.
