Alchimia Grow Shop presents Baby Leaf Lettuce Seed Tape by Rocalba, conceived for growing a mixture of lettuces with the maximum comfort in open ground in a vegetable patch or an urban table garden.
Baby Leaf lettuce seeds tape, a mixture of Lollo Rossa, Lollo Bionda and Catalogna
This Baby Leaf lettuces mixture (40% Lactuca sativa L. Lollo Rosa, 30% Lactuca sativa L. Lollo Bionda, 30% Lactuca sativa L. Catalogna) offers Lollo Rossa, Lollo Bionda and Catalogna. Fast-growing varieties ideal for harvesting tender shoots and enjoying a variety of textures, aromas and colours.
All three lettuce varieties develop vigorously. By sowing the seeds very close together, the plants increase in density and competition, so they develop much smaller and tender leaves increasing the flavour and performance.
They are germinated from late winter in greenhouses, and until late summer in regions with warm autumns. The tape with seeds is buried in a mixture of soil, worm humus, compost or manure and cultivated on a flat terrain or in beds if preferred.
Baby Leaf lettuce seeds tape, perfect for consuming tender sprouts
The paper tape is soaked well with water, then covered with a 1cm substrate layer. It is then watered again to ensure that the soil is well moistened but not waterlogged. It should be kept with constant moisture for the first few weeks.
The seeds sprout after about 3-4 days, starting to grow rapidly provided with a temperature above 19°C and an adequate moisture level throughout the whole plant's cycle. It is very convenient to use a drip automatic irrigation system.
In a few weeks the plants are ready to harvest, collecting the largest leaves in order to let the plants produce new shoots, thus being able to enjoy leaves for much longer than if the plants were plucked whole.
