Rocalba Organic Genovese Courgette Seeds, a super-fast growth variety
The Genovese courgette (Cucurbita Pepo) is a plant that grows vigorously, developing long creeping stems with large and wide leaves. It takes up a lot of space in all directions and can reach up to 1m high.
Due to its very fast development it requires a lot of water and nutrients. It adapts well to all types of substrates, offering the best results with aerated and well-drained soil, rich in peat, worm hummus and compost or dry manure. It develops deep and diversified roots.
From March onwards the seeds can be germinated in a greenhouse or indoors, in a warm place plenty of light. It is also possible to sow directly from mid-April, when the risk of frost ceases. It needs a planting frame of about 1-2m x 0.5-1.0m.
Rocalba Organic Genovese Courgette Seeds, fruits up to 22cm long
The first sprouts are observed after 4-5 days. After 4-5 weeks, the courgette production begins and will continue until autumn when temperatures decrease. This courgette, with a very sweet aroma, are light green in colour with white specks are about 22cm long and cylindrical in shape.
It is important to know that this plant produces male and female flowers (the stem is thicker), therefore in order to produce fruit there must be pollination. In the garden, insects and bees are responsible for this process, but in urban cultivation one must do the pollination by sprinkling a male flower on the female flowers.
To obtain the best results it is ideal to install an automatic irrigation system. The courgettes need to be controlled and harvested at their optimum maturity before they produce any seeds. This causes a plant fatigue which stops generating flowers and fruit production.
