Expanded clay aggregate or clay pebbles, also known as arlita, are widely used in hydroponics and aeroponics, as well as being placed in the bottom of pots if the marijuana plant is grown in soil.
The clay pebbles trap air and redistribute it allowing good aeration of the roots. Arlita is rough and roots will cling to it. This substrate is a perfect support for the osmotic exchange of nutrients.
How to use arlita with soil?
For marijuana plants grown in soil, put one to three centimetres of arlita to cover the bottom of the pot. This will facilitate drainage and plants will be grateful.
How to use arlita in hydroponics and aeroponics?
We suggest washing the clay pebbles with water as dust could clog the emitters. It is also recommended to soak them in pH adjusted water until the pH stabilises at 5.5.
