Rocalba Chives Prague organic seeds, an aromatic plant with character
Chives (Allium Schopenoprasum), also called Chinese onions, are perennial plants with sharp and hollowed-out leaves with a conical tube deep green appearance. It is a plant that grows about 20cm.
It produces mauve-coloured flowers loaded with petals that stand out between the leaves. The flowering period is in spring and can last several weeks if heat is not extreme and we provide water and fertilised soil with good nutrients.
The seeds can germinate between March and September. They are buried at a maximum depth of 1cm in groups of 2-3 seeds. In this way we manage to leave the stronger plant when they sprout after two weeks.
Rocalba Chives Prague organic seeds, very easy to cultivate at home
Sowed directly in the ground we should leave a 10cm space between each group of seeds so they have enough room to develop. The soil used should be rich in compost or manure, also with worm humus and slightly clayey when possible. Before sowing, the soil should be moist.
Watering should be frequent but in a delicate way. A drip system is ideal to keep the substratum moist but avoiding root watering. This plant grows ideally at a temperature of 20°C, avoiding extreme heat in summer so that it doesn't dry out.
At harvest we cut the leaves leaving a third of them on the plant, so that they continue to develop. We can keep repeating the process until the plant dies with the cold at the end of the year or until it is exhausted if we have it indoors.
