Rocalba Mugwort seeds, aromatic and medicinal plant
Common Mugwort (Artemisa vulgaris) is an herbaceous perennial plant belonging to the Asteraceae family, also called Felon Herb or Riverside Wormwood. It is native to the temperate zones of Asia, Europe and North Africa.
This plant can reach up to 1-2m high, developing flexible stems and stalked and sessile leaves alike. It acquires a range of colours from a pale green to a more intense and dark green. It produces yellowish flowers, and its fruits are cypselas (in spikes). It benefits greatly from a worm humus or compost substrate on which to nourish.
The seeds are germinated in spring in a seedbed or in direct sowing, respecting a planting frame of about 30cm x 40cm. The seeds are placed in groups of 2-3, covering them slightly with uncompacted soil and watering them abundantly. The first sprouts emerge after about 2-3 weeks.
Rocalba Mugwort seeds, very resistant and easy to cultivate
This "weed" adapts perfectly to all substrates, although it prefers them to be spongy, with good drainage capacity and rich in organic matter. When planted in open ground it prevents the development of other plants around, and also prevents plagues thanks to the exudation of certain aromatic substances.
It requires plenty of sunlight to develop optimally, with relatively regular humidity conditions in order to increase its development. It is very interesting to install an automatic irrigation system to facilitate the task. Even so, this plant tolerates well drought and even frost.
The leaves are picked in mid-summer and then dried to be used in infusions or liqueurs. It offers both aromatic properties and therapeutic uses, e.g. as an anticonvulsant.
