Feminised cannabis seeds for seedless harvesting
Cannabis is an annual and dioecious plant, from its progeny male and female plants are obtained (sometimes certain varieties also give rise to hermaphrodites to ensure their lineage), but sex-stable females are the ones sought after by cultivators to obtain quality seedless harvests.
Although the first studies on feminisation date back to the 70s, it was not until the late 90s when seedbanks such as Dutch Passion began to offer commercial feminised seeds based on Mohan Ram's studies. Since then and from 2000 onwards, many cannabis seedbanks began to offer a wide range of feminised strains in their catalogues, and today the vast majority offer feminised seeds and only very few in regular format, unlike in the early days, when everything was regular (non-feminised).
Feminisation seed process
In the process of obtaining feminised cannabis seeds, the first step is to obtain sex-stable female plants (not hermaphrodites). Once a stable female has been selected for its characteristics, it is subjected to a process with STS (Silver Thiosulphate) to carry out the reversion of its sex and obtain pollen, by means of this method the pollen is exactly the same as that produced by a male, but the big difference is that the pollen from the reversion of the female only contains XX chromosomes, so it will always produce female progeny.
Feminised seeds offer 99% female descendants, saving effort and space in the cultivation. They can be Automatic (Auto) or photodependent.
In Alchimia's website we have a wide variety of feminised seeds, from European and US seed banks.
