Veronica by Batlle is a garden plant/shrub also called Hebe Speciosa. It is native to Australia, Tasmania, New Guinea, the southern part of the American continent and the Falkland Islands. It is a plant that likes heat but can also withstand cold climates.
It is a plant with woody stems and perennial leaves that develop very compact spikes in the shape of a needle where blue-violet flowers emerge. It is a plant that requires a lot of direct sunlight in order to develop fully, reaching about 60cm high.
This plant does not resist temperatures below 8°C. At a nutritional level we can provide a humus base in its pot to provide optimal nutrition. It needs good drainage to avoid stagnant water in the pot.
Veronica can be planted in a seedbed or directly in a pot. We transplant it autumn or spring.
In summer we provide abundant watering, but along the rest of the year watering should be limited and spaced out. When the spikes develop it is advisable to use mineral or organic fertiliser every two weeks to maintain the plant vigour and flower production.
Veronica can be planted in open ground, used as a bush or planted in a pot to decorate terraces, balconies or gardens. It is a plant with a high resistance to garden pests.
