Interview REMA - Spannabis 2016

Here you have our interview with some of the Cannabis Women at 2016 Spannabis, in which they told us about the REMA project and their goals with regard to equality and information. It was a pleasure, girls!

REMA Interview transcription

"We never know how high we are till we're asked to rise" - Emily Dickinson

Good afternoon, first of all we'd like to thank you for sharing some minutes with us, it makes us especially happy. I think the first question I should ask is: Where does this association of cannabis women come from? How did REMA start and what is your motivation?

The motivation that allowed us to have our first birth yesterday - the birth of the State network of anti-prohibitionist women comes from the individual needs of many women who have been fighting alone.

This longing for coming together, this feeling of things that do not work properly in the cannabis scene beyond the fight against prohibition was something that we were experiencing alone, and life has given us a present, it has gathered some of us, who shared and said "wow, it's a common goal".

And since then we've built a pot so that the 80 women who participated yesterday and the many that have joined us since we were born a month ago can plant a seed and see how this subject blooms.

I have company, successful, and good health until this moment, thanks, and well, just to say that someone drinking alcohol can become alcoholic, but can also become a very responsible person.
As any other drug in this world, plants are our sisters, they tell us and teach us plenty of things, so I respect them a lot.

From what I saw the meeting was great, if you could tell us what exactly was all about and how did you feel after yesterday's meeting...

Well, as she said, yesterday we celebrated the constitution of our group, it was divided into 3 parts; a first part in which we shared our experiences both at international and national level, how do we feel as women in this "masculine world" of cannabis.

We went to take a coffee and then we explained what we think that REMA is, which were the concerns and motivations that we want to join with this platform.

Once the dynamics were presented we reached the conclusions, where a number of directions and claims by all women continuously arised.

We had lunch and during the afternoon... we all decided to unite in this platform and continue with this project, we still had to agree about the work lines and tomorrow...we don't want to tell you much because the conclusions will be presented tomorrow, but we can tell you that REMA will keep on fighting for a long time, we have lots of projects ahead and this looks really nice, we are very happy.

I'm Fernanda, many of you know me as Marijuana Grandma, and that means I'm a mother, a grandmother, a grower and, above all,
a student of this wonderful plant which is my friend, and that is the best I can say.

And from here, I want to pay tribute to Michka, since all Spaniards owe her our first contact with the cannabis plant.

I want to tell you that it is a great honor for me to be here with you, thanks a lot.

Well, precisely, tomorrow I won't be able to be with them, but I'll be there from the distance. I think it is a perfect moment to let the people know about us, 0to start- as they said - planting seeds,
and also - if we look forward - to take our space in this fair of cannabis people from around the world, right?

I think that it is important that women, the very few women in this sector, start holding each other's hand and giving them their fair place. There are so many things that we can do together.

The reason why I requested the floor is because your speech has touched me, I know many of you and I know you'll do a great job, you work non-stop and what I like most about this project - besides encouraging you and offering my support as always, you know that Gemma but what I like most about this project is that you are leading it.

You were asking about female nonusers, right? We want to stress the idea that we're anti-prohibitionist women, and that goes far beyond our private use. It is clear to us that, today, recognizing our habits and telling the community that a responsible use of any substance is possible is a very important sign of militancy, isn't it? To normalize this situation.

After all the use is private...what we want is to combat inequality
from our sphere of action but always contributing to equality between men and women, and to the same opportunities.

And also, fighting for governments to recognize that, today, public policies can't be focused from a perspective without women anymore.

That's what we'll fight for.

What do you think about a company like us, Alchimia Grow Shop,
which is lucky enough to celebrate 15 years in this sector?

I'll be pleased to answer this one, hahaha!
Above all, I'd like to congratulate you, and then thank you for all these years supporting activism in all senses, logistics, economical support, being present at every event, thanks for the information that you provide from a non-sexist point of view on our blogs.

Thanks for the service provided to many female users who don't have any other source of information about growing or the use... so as person, user and female, thanks you very much.

And...hooray for you and all your staff. Our team of female workers, right? Because you're an example of a company fighting against gender inequality at work, of the commercial side of the cannabis world, with 18 women in your crew...They're a great team, and keep on moving forward for another 1000 years.

So, to close this event, which is born today and starts to walk...
I invite you to come here to the table, if you wish,
and we'll take a family photo so REMA starts strong.
