Camomile is an annual herb belonging to the Asteraceae family. It is known for its many applications and properties. It is a bushy plant with upright stems crowned by small flowers with white petals and yellow buds. It can grow up to 40cm.
Sowing is done in early spring. It needs sun exposure although its cultivation is not very demanding. It requires frequent watering but not waterlogging, as it does not tolerate excess humidity. It adapts very well to dry soils. It flowers during the summer.
Camomile is notable for its numerous properties. In infusions, it helps digestion, prevents flatulence, heavy digestion and colic. It also has a calming effect. Applied topically it helps with skin diseases and conjunctivitis.
In the vegetable patch or in the garden it can be very useful to spray camomile slurry on other plants, as it is very helpful to combat fungal diseases.
