Alyssum maritimum
Snow Basket Alyssum is an annual plant belonging to the Brassicaceae family, an easy-to-grow perennial that grows up to 10-30cm. It produces inflorescences with numerous small white flowers. Alder flowers exude a sweet honey aroma.
As an ornamental plant, it has various uses in gardening, among which it is particularly suitable as a groundcover or rockery plant thanks to its low height and great germination power. In the vegetable patch as in the garden, it attracts and shelters beneficial insects such as bees and ladybirds.
It is best planted in early spring and does not require a lot of care to develop properly. Alder flowers better and more vigorously if withered flowers are removed. It is usually planted in full sun although it tolerates semi-shade. It is resistant to high temperatures and drought.
As a medicinal plant, it is attributed with diuretic properties.
