Chemdog, or Chemdawg as it is often erroneously called, is an iconic and enigmatic variety that has become one of the cornerstones of the international cannabis scene over the last few decades. For a long time, its background has been shrouded in mystery, with very few hard facts available to anyone outside of the select few who shared these genetics among themselves. But with the advent of legalisation in several key American states, those behind the discovery of Chemdog have started to tell the story of this legendary strain. and shed some light on the
The Chemdog story as we know it begins way back in June 1991 at a Grateful Dead concert held in Indiana's Deer Creek Amphitheater. In the parking lot, a couple of pot dealers from Colorado sold an ounce of extremely high-grade cannabis called Dog Bud for $500 to a guy from Massachusetts who went by the name "Chemdog". They exchanged contact details that night and at a later date, arranged to send Chemdog another two ounces of the same Dog Bud.
One of those ounces was completely seedless, but in the other one, Chemdog found 13 seeds in the flowers, evidently fruit of an accidental pollination with an unknown male or, most likely, a stressed female that "hermied". Inspired by the high quality of the Dog Bud flowers, he soon germinated 4 of these seeds, which gave him 3 females and a male. The male was quickly thrown out, but these three female plants are what are now known as Chemdog '91, Chem Sister and Chemdog B.
Over the following 15 years, 7 more of the original seeds were germinated, of which Chemdog D and Chem 4 were considered worth keeping, but, for one reason or another, none of the phenotypes has had the impact and acceptance enjoyed by Chem '91, which soon gained a reputation for its incredibly heavy effect, uniquely "gassy" terpene profile and insane resin production.
As a result , the cut began to be shared among a select few growers in the early 1990s, which only served to increase demand for the elusive clone. Since then it can be argued that Chem '91 has gone on to spawn a whole genre of fuel-flavoured cannabis varieties, giving birth to such legends as Sour Diesel, OG Kush, Headband, Stardawg, Gorilla Glue and many, many more hard-hitting strains.
Here we have gathered together our full range of regular, feminised and automatic seeds containing Chemdog genetics, with an ample selection of exciting hybrids to choose from.
