Alchimia is pleased to present Rancho Solito tomato, a variety native to New Mexico (US) developed by Lee Goodwin looking for earlier tomato varieties. It is a cross between a wild variety and Stupice tomato.
It produces small round tomatoes of 20-40g, in clusters of 6-10 bright red fruits. Each fruit has a small knot at the end. The pulp is firm and tender, with a sweet fruity flavour. Rancho Solito is an ideal tomato for salads and appetisers.
It is a very early plant, offering a good production, even in slightly cooler climates.
Rancho Solito tomato cultivation
Like most tomatoes, germination is usually done in seedbeds before the last frosts. The seedlings are transplanted after the last frosts at a minimum distance of about 0.5m, burying up to the first leaves.
It requires a sunny, well-drained and well-fertilised soil. Rancho Solito requires medium-high irrigation, and special care must be taken with irrigation after a period of drought, as it is easy for the tomatoes to crack.
The harvest is early, just about 55 days after germination, and lasts throughout the season. It is a variety with early, abundant, and consistent production.
