Origanum vulgare
Common Oregano is well-known for its use as a cooking seasoning in pasta dishes, pizzas and sauces. It is a perennial plant. It grows as a bush and can reach up to 1m.
Common Oregano is sown directly and requires soils rich in organic matter in order to thrive properly. As a typical Mediterranean plant, it requires a lot of sun and little watering; excessive watering can hinder its development. It can be cultivated in pots or on a growing table as long as the substrate is well drained.
It is an aromatic plant with an intense flavour. It is a well-known seasoning in the kitchen and has medicinal properties. It is an antioxidant, antiseptic and antimicrobial, consumed as an infusion it helps to relieve flus and colds.
