Red Habanero seeds by Rocalba, fresh or powdered, ideal for all kinds of recipes
Red Habanero is the most widely known chilli pepper. This is thanks to its powerful aroma, which can remind of exotic fruits, with a strong and pungent taste, which makes it a great choice for all kinds of dishes, such as meat, fish, etc. It is usually used fresh, but there are a lot of recipes that use this spicy pepper as powder.
The Red Habanero spiciness is powerful, reaching between 100,000 and 350,000 SHU (Scoville Heat Units is the scale value used to measure the amount of Capsaicin in the pepper). To get an idea of how hot a Habanero can be, it is 40-50 times the Jalapeño, 10 times the Tabasco but at the same time 1⁄4 times the Carolina Reaper's spiciness.
A further reason for its popularity in kitchens all over the world is its beautiful appearance. It produces a large number of small green fruits with a very smooth skin, which turn bright red when ripe.
Habaneros come in a wide range of colours, sizes and shapes, including the Chocolate Habanero and the Orange Habanero, which is the original variety.
This variety is also called Red Savina Habanero, as Savina was the name of Frank Garcia's mother, the discoverer of this mutation in the Orange Habanero.
Red Habanero by Rocalba, huge production with easy cultivation
The cultivation does not differ too much from other hot and non-hot peppers that you can grow in your garden. The basic requirements to be taken into account are germination, irrigation, temperature and harvest.
The germination should be done in late February or early March, in order to avoid the first frosts, which, since they come from tropical areas, are the main trouble for hot peppers. Therefore, they require a high amount of watering and humidity, at least during their growth.
For green hot peppers, they are ready to harvest in late summer. In case you want ripe, bright red peppers, they are ready in early autumn before the first frosts.
