Rocalba Dill seed, aromatic and medicinal
Dill (Anethum graveolens) is an herbaceous plant with an annual cycle, belonging to the Umbelliferae or Apiaceae family and originating from the Mediterranean Sea's eastern temperate regions. It has been used traditionally for medicinal uses since Charlemagne's time.
It reaches a maximum height of about 60-70cm, producing hollow stems and flat umbels with yellow flowers at the top. It is common in countryside areas with uncultivated land. It benefits from well-drained substrates rich in worm humus, compost or manure.
The perfect time to germinate the seeds is spring, with direct sowing by placing 2-3 seeds 25-30cm apart in the open ground with a 10cm x 10cm planting frame, or sowing them in the final pot. Dill's roots are fragile, therefore it does not tolerate transplants well.
Rocalba Dill seeds, easy to cultivate and fast developing
It is important not to bury the seeds more than 0.1-0.3mm in order to facilitate germination, then the first plants emerge after about 14-21 days. Provided with a sunny place, no low temperatures or frost, no water excess or lack (temperate climate), it develops quickly and without demands.
It requires frequent but moderate watering, keeping the substratum humid when the plants are young, while preventing waterlogging which could rot the roots. The use of an automatic irrigation system is a very good option.
The leaves can be picked during the whole hot season until the autumn coolness arrives. They can be used for cooking. They also offer beneficial properties at a gastrointestinal level, acting as a carminative and diuretic. It also helps to relieve uterine spasms and menstrual pain.
