Origanum vulgare
Oregano is an herbaceous perennial plant with a strong aroma, growing as a small shrub up to 1m. As a cooking spice it is known for the many dishes and sauces it accompanies and enriches with its aroma.
Oregano as a medicinal herb is used to prepare natural remedies. It is attributed with antioxidant, antiseptic, antimicrobial, tonic and digestive properties.
Oregano is sown directly in the spring, and once the shoots have sprouted, they should be thinned out, leaving a distance of about 30cm between plants. The plant is comfortable in full sun and watering should be well spaced.
