"Rojo Redondo" radish seeds tape, undemanding and easy to cultivate
“Rojo Redondo” radish (Raphanus sativus) is an annual or biennial plant belonging to the Brassicaceae family. It is native to Eurasia and the eastern Mediterranean area, although today it is grown almost everywhere.
This plant differs morphologically by a stem up to 100cm and little ramified, with long leaves that come out from the stem base. It produces small pink flowers in spring. The fruits grow underground, radishes of an intense red colour with a rounded shape.
In regions with a temperate climate it can be germinated all year round, although the ideal time is between March and November. The tape with seeds is buried in a small furrow with a mixture of worm humus or compost and soil. The tape is soaked well with water and covered with 1cm of soil, and then watered again.
"Rojo Redondo" radish seeds tape, ready to harvest in about 30 days
It is a very undemanding plant in terms of nutrients. This makes it very easy to grow, obtaining good results with very little effort as long as we ensure constant humidity soaking the substrate but without getting waterlogged.
Using a drip automatic irrigation system can make this task much easier. Besides being a plant with a very short life cycle, it offers a harvest every month approximately. One can enjoy radishes all season long by sowing new plants every 15 days.
The seeds sprout after about 10 days and are ready after about 30 days. The radish should be dug up at this time so it does not crack and become ruined. We can enjoy its intense and fresh aroma between sweet and spicy, ideal to complement salads or to enjoy as an aperitif.
