R-Kiem Seeds tell us all about Banana Dessert

The guys at R-Kiem Seeds have been celebrating recently, thanks to a new strain that they've just dropped, Banana Dessert. What's more, for the first month of its release, this champion variety will be available exclusively at Alchimia Grow Shop, so if you want to be the first to enjoy it, this is your chance!

After the triumphant results in the last edition of Spannabis'22, we wanted to have a chat with Angel, founder of this seed bank that keeps reaping trophies event after event, to tell us a little more about their spectacular strain Banana Dessert, a variety that is set to become a real favourite for growers and, in particular, for resin extractors. Let's see what he had to say!

We'd like to start this interview by thanking the R-Kiem Seeds team for giving us the opportunity to be the first to exclusively have Banana Dessert seeds, their latest creation that's already won several trophies even before it was launched on the market, and, of course, by wishing them huge congratulations on their recent successes!

Alchimia - Hi Angel, it's been a while since we had last talked and we've been looking forward to it, the truth is that the pandemic hasn't made things easier... How has the situation affected R-Kiem as a seed bank in the last two years?

Hi brooo, it's a pleasure to share all our progress with the Alchimia family again. Actually, our company wasn't affected negatively, quite the opposite, being the only Spanish company that can legally sell THC clones from our base in Canada with our partner Klonetics, we can sell clones to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Latin America; in addition, we had legal production licenses in Uruguay and the first pre-approval in Argentina with INTA, which has meant that the technicians and company members have had a lot of work and that we were some of the few citizens who could travel in the middle of the pandemic. This has allowed us to continue advancing and improving all our departments.

Alchimia - The truth is that you seem to have been working really hard, as you have recently won a few cannabis cups with your Banana Dessert, when in fact it wasn't even on sale yet! The perfect launch for a new strain, right?

Yes, it's really crazy what this variety is giving us: 3rd position in the Egoclash, and 1st in Rosin and Bubblehash in the Champions Cup at Spannabis, the benchmark cannabis competition for all of us who work in this sector and the one that everyone wants to win every year. Luck and hard work gave me the opportunity to meet Zurefarm, an incredible person and cannabis lover; we connected immediately, and his dedication to his work showed me that he was not only going to be what he is today as a grower and extractor but that he was going to be part of our crew. The trust we placed in him was immediately rewarded, we worked on a spectacular cross that reflects the passion and the requirements for what an R-KIEM variety represents: lots of resin and terpenes and easy adaptability to all types of growing systems. In short, these awards are the result of work that reflects the passion of two plant lovers. A unique selection of Banana Sherbet x Purple Punch 2.0!

Alchimia - Tell us a bit more about her... Indoor or outdoor? Organic or hydro? Apart from giving her lots of love, what else can we do to get her full potential?

An all-rounder, that's how I would define her. Her easy adaptability to all types of substrates and the different hemispheres makes her a must-have variety for all growers who want to experience an impressive quality and quantity of terpenes and trichomes! If we use an EC level that does not exceed 0.9 in growth, the plants will thank us, but don't let that confuse you: Banana Dessert is really chunky and will be ready in 8/9 weeks indoors. Its great hybrid vigour, being an F1, means that its growth is dizzying, especially if we grow it in a large container outdoors. The flowers will offer us a range of spectacular colours and terpenes in early autumn.

Alchimia - We know you're very passionate about cannabis concentrates, so the question is: How does Banana Dessert perform when making extractions?

As you know, we are especially freaky about solventless extractions. The return from fresh-frozen bubble hash is 7% and in dry material easily it exceeds 25%, but this is not the most surprising thing, which is the crazy concentration of terpenes, the lipid of these trichomes and how, both in Rosin and Bubblehash, the extract clearly reflects this unique terpene profile that is noticeable from the second week of flowering and even the aftertaste, lasting minutes after consuming it. A REALLY CRAZY This banana and cream dessert is JUST CRAZY!

Alchimia - To make Banana Dessert you used Purple Punch 2.0 as the male, did you notice any big differences compared to the Alpha Cut clone of Purple Punch? What is the reason for this choice? 

Banana Dessert is currently available as limited edition regular seeds in packs of 5 & 10. We've been working on the feminised version for a year and if all goes well, maybe in 2023 we will be able to release it.

This hybrid that is now on sale is the result of pollinating a Strawberry Banana x Sunset Sherbet female, aka Banana Sherbet, a very special clone carefully selected by Zurefarm from exclusive seeds brought from California, crossed with our Purple Punch 2.0 male, created by Symbiotic Genetics. The differences between the Purple Punch Alpha cut we used in our 2Y2 strain and the Purple punch 2.0 selection are notorious, in this exclusive version released by Symbiotic in 2018 we found unique specimens, this male transmits alleles that underline the quantity and size of the resin heads and the stability of its offspring of the different phenotypes within the same genotype.
