Forbidden Rice Feminized by LIT Farms

Information on Forbidden Rice

Forbidden Rice is a feminized variety from Lit Farms, the California-based seed bank also known as Lost In Translation, obtained by crossing Sticky Rice with Black Runtz. It is an indica-dominant hybrid with an aroma that blends lemon zest and sweet berries over a spicy, creamy background. Its THC content is high, with minimal CBD levels, and its effect begins with an uplifting mood that transitions into calm, body relaxation.

A name with intention

Lit Farms is a California-based seed bank that works with current genetics focused on intense terpene profiles, good resin production, and striking visual appeal. Their motto, Nothing Is Lost In Translation, sums up an approach that blends California's growing tradition with contemporary crosses. Forbidden Rice is part of a recent series in which the bank has used Black Runtz as a parent in several different combinations.

The name seems like a nod to its own genealogy. If you combine Sticky Rice with Black Runtz, what you get is black rice. And black rice is precisely what's sold as forbidden rice, a nickname that comes from the legend that in ancient China it was reserved for royalty.

Forbidden Rice genetics

Forbidden Rice is an indica-leaning hybrid that brings together in one plant two lines very present in the current California scene. The plants develop a compact, branchy structure, with short internodes and dense buds coated in resin. Under light, the layer of trichomes can show purple glints, a trait associated with its Black Runtz parent.

The result is a genetic in which each parent contributes a recognizable part of the profile. Sticky Rice provides its citrus and creamy notes along with plant vigor, while Black Runtz adds the candy and berry register and that dark bud appearance. It's a combination designed for growers who prioritize flavor and resin above all else.

Sticky Rice

Sticky Rice is a creation from Lit Farms itself, an indica-dominant hybrid born from crossing Lemon Cherry Gelato with Permanent Marker. Its aroma combines tart lemon, cherry, a hint of gas and a touch of pine, a blend that has been described as a citrus sorbet with tropical nuances. It transmits much of its citrus and creamy component to Forbidden Rice.

Lemon Cherry Gelato is usually attributed to a cross of Sunset Sherbet with Girl Scout Cookies and a third undisclosed variety, and is known for its dense buds with an aroma of sour lemon, cherries and red berries. Permanent Marker, for its part, is the work of Doja Pak and Seed Junky and stands out for its floral, soapy, sweet profile with a gas background.

Permanent Marker, one of Forbidden Rice's grandparents, was included by High Times magazine among the best strains of 2022, which gives an idea of the level of genetics behind this cross.

Black Runtz

Black Runtz comes from the cross between Zkittlez and Gelato, and its origin is attributed to Big Boss Farms. It's a dominant indica with an aroma that balances tart and sweet, with lemon and fresh berries up front and nuances of cream and sage in the background. Its effect is described as calm and happy, with a tendency toward deep relaxation.

Black Runtz shares parents with the famous Runtz, but its expression is different, less sugary and with a more citrus twist thanks to its high limonene content. Its dark, frosty buds have been compared to black diamonds shining in the night sky.

Growing Forbidden Rice

Forbidden Rice is suitable for both indoor and outdoor cultivation. The plants reach medium height, which makes them easy to manage in conventional growing spaces. Their compact, branchy structure keeps the plant well distributed during growth.

Indoors, flowering is completed within a window of 8 to 10 weeks, with many specimens ready around eight or nine weeks. During that period the buds gain density and are covered with an abundant layer of resin, which is one of the variety's strong points. Monitoring trichomes helps fine-tune the harvest time according to the desired effect.

As with any variety with compact flowers, it's advisable to manage ventilation carefully and monitor humidity in the final weeks of flowering. Short internodes and tight buds appreciate good air movement and lower pruning that concentrates energy on the main tops.

Flavor and effect

The aroma of Forbidden Rice is dominated by limonene, which translates into a very fresh citrus zest over a background of sweet berries. Next comes a spicy nuance typical of caryophyllene, and the whole is rounded out with a smooth finish provided by myrcene and linalool.

On the palate, that line of forest berries, citrus and sweetness is maintained, with a creamy texture reminiscent of Sticky Rice's heritage. The fruity candy notes of Black Runtz complete a dessert-like profile, pleasant and easy to recognize from one puff to the next.

The effect arrives progressively: first the mood lifts and the body loosens, giving way to a sensation of calm and focus that lasts for a good while. Over time it shifts toward complete body relaxation, warm and enveloping, consistent with its indica dominance.

Its THC content is high and CBD is barely present, so it should be dosed with moderation, especially if you don't have experience with potent genetics. Due to its relaxing finish, it fits better in quiet moments than on days that require a lot of activity.
