A range of concentrations for every experience level
What sets magic truffles apart from other mycological products is the wide range of available concentrations. The content of psilocybin and psilocin varies significantly between varieties—between 0.31% and 0.68% by dry weight, depending on the strain and cultivation conditions—allowing you to choose exactly the level that suits your profile and interests. Psilocybe mexicana offers the mildest concentration in the range, while Tampanensis represents an intermediate step. At the more concentrated end, varieties such as Galindoi or Valhalla present the highest levels of active compounds in the catalogue.
This scalability makes truffles a versatile and gradable option, more predictable than other formats, as each sclerotium presents a homogeneous composition of active principles throughout its entire structure.
Different profiles, different varieties
Scientific literature on psilocybin—present in all magic truffles—documents that this compound interacts with serotonergic receptors in the nervous system, resulting in alterations in sensory perception, changes in cognitive processing, and modifications of emotional state. The intensity and character of these alterations depend on multiple factors: the variety used, the concentration of active compounds, the individual sensitivity of each person, and, very relevantly, the prior mental state and physical environment (what the psychonautic community calls set & setting).
Each variety has its own profile documented by the community: Mexicana are associated with a gentle and sociable character, Tampanensis—known as "Philosopher's Stones"—with a more contemplative and introspective dimension, and Atlantis with a more accentuated sensory profile. At Alchimia we always recommend being well-informed before taking any steps.
Thousands of years of mycological history
The use of psilocybin mushrooms dates back more than 7,000 years, according to archaeological evidence found in the Sahara and in cave art representations from various regions. The indigenous peoples of Mesoamerica, especially the Mazatecs of Oaxaca, used Psilocybe mexicana in ceremonial contexts, calling it teonanácatl ("sacred mushroom" in Nahuatl). It was precisely from this species that Albert Hofmann first isolated psilocybin in 1958. Psilocybe tampanensis, meanwhile, was discovered in 1977 by mycologist Steven Pollock near Tampa, Florida, and all current strains descend from that single wild find.
Who are magic truffles for?
Magic truffles are designed for mycology enthusiasts, collectors, and members of the psychonautic community seeking to explore the properties of Psilocybe sclerotia. If you want to get started in the exciting world of sclerotia, mild concentration varieties such as Mexicana are usually a good option according to researchers. If you're already experienced, you can explore mid-range options like Tampanensis or Atlantis. And if you're an advanced connoisseur, Galindoi or Valhalla will offer you the highest concentration levels in the catalogue. At Alchimia we have varieties for different levels.
Freshness, preservation, and quality
All the magic truffles you'll find at Alchimia are supplied fresh and vacuum-packed, sourced from specialized growers who work under controlled temperature and humidity conditions. This format ensures maximum concentration of active principles and an extended shelf life. For proper preservation, it's essential to keep them refrigerated between 2°C and 6°C without opening the package. Once opened, it's recommended to use them within a few days. The appearance of bluish tones is completely normal: it's due to the oxidation of psilocybin and doesn't affect the product's quality.
