Adjust-A-Wings Reflectors. Tutorial Video

How do we set up an Adjust-A-Wings reflector? In this video we explain in detail how to connect this type of reflector. It’s a step-by-step guide to  setting up an Adjust-A-Wings, supplied with all it’s accessories, which here at www.alchimiaweb.com we stock in all it’s different sizes and colours.

These are the best-selling reflectors in the cannabis sector,  and for many years now, the most widely used in indoor home-growing spaces.

Let’s see how to set up one of the best selling reflectors at www.alchimiaweb.com, the Adjust-A-Wings. It’s available in 3 sizes: small, medium and large, and in 2 colours: white and silver.
When we buy the Adjust-A-Wings, in any size or colour, it comes in a few different parts. On one side, the bulb holder, the connection cable, the Super Spreader and the box with the most visible part of the reflector, the wings and fittings.

Let’s open the box, in this case it’s a large Adjust-A-Wings Defender in white, let’s see what we’ve got, to one side the metal fittings and the tensor cable, the assembly instructions and the two wings of the Adjust-A-Wings.

We’ve cleared the table, and now let’s assemble the wings of the reflector. Separate the 2 wings, that come together in the packaging, turn them over and click them together. The top part first, then the bottom, till they are perfectly joined and turn the Adjust-A-Wings over…

First we’re going to get the semi-circles from the bag and take one of them. The fittings go on the front and the back part of the Adjust-A-Wings, and they’re going to help give the wings their shape. They’re fitted on the end, like this, and they’re bolted on. There are two bolts for each fitting… and we’ll  do the same with the other. We fit here and tighten it up.

Perfect, Now it’s time to fit the Adjust-A-Wings’ tensors, which will give it it’s final form. These are the cables, we’ll take one and start at the front. Now, here on the left hand side we put it in it’s hole and firmly, we’re going to put the other end of the cable on the other side. We’ll do the same at the back of the reflector…

It’s not easy! It’s a bit difficult. You’ll have noticed that there’s another anchor point, for if we want to bend the reflector even more. Let’s fit the lamp holder. The system is similar, with some bolts, let’s loosen them and fit it here…

We turn it around to access the connection box, which we’re going to open to connect the supply cable. We’ve got the terminal strip, which we’re going to use to connect the supply cable. On one side, the white cable, and in the other the black…

We take the Male cable by the stripped end and insert it in the hole. It’ll get through much easier if we unscrew it… putting the cables in right up to the casing if we can, and making sure we’ve got enough cable to reach the terminal strip.

In this case we’ve got 3 cables, the Earth which we’ll leave in the centre unconnected, and we’re going to connect the supply cables: Live and Neutral. The Live (the brown) connects to the black. The blue to the white. And in this case we’ll leave the Earth cable in the middle, without any connection in this case… and now we can close the lid.

By loosening these bolts, we can move the bulb holder outwards to accommodate an energy-saving bulb, which is what we’re going to connect right now. We take it out the energy saving bulb, and fit it into the bulb holder (or lamp holder), tightening it, and simply connecting the current.

The Adjust-A-Wings with the energy-saving bulb is now working. Next we’re going to do the same, but instead of working directly from the 220v mains as with the energy saving bulb, we’ll use an electronic ballast with another cable. Let’s get to it…

We’ve removed the 220v supply cable that we had for the energy saving bulb, and we’ve replaced it with his Plug & Play to be able to connect to the ballast. The Plug & Play is connected to the lamp holder in the same way as we connected the 220v cable.

Thats it, all that’s left is to remove the bulb from it’s box, fit it in the bulb holder, to test the reflector. But first, I’m going to show you how to fit the Super Spreader.

We take the 2 parts of the Super Spreader and we’re simply going to fit it here. We’ll need a small cross-head screwdriver. We fit the Super Spreader in front of the bulb, on the bulb holder, in the slot provided for this purpose.

The Super Spreader serves to reflect the light well over the whole grow area. All that’s left is to connect the ballast to the 220v supply and in 5 or 10 seconds the bulb is going to light up, it’s a HPS in this case. Now we’ve seen how the Adjust-A-Wings works with just one lamp holder.

Now, we’ve fitted the Adjust-A-Wings with 2 bulbs. To do this, we’ve installed a second lamp-holder, that we’ve connected in the same way as the first one, but instead of using a terminal strip, we’ve used crimped connectors.

Important!! Use a ballast for each bulb. Don’t try and wire two bulbs to one ballast, because it won’t work. Now, let’s see how this works. We connect the electric current and we’ll see how the two bulbs light up on our Adjust-A-Wings.

One detail: We’ve had to move the lamp holders from the central position to the end, to allow both bulbs to fit and share the space better.

Well, there it is, now we’ve seen how to connect an Adjust-A-Wings reflector in 3 different sizes, in different colours, with an energy saving bulb, with one lamp holder and as we can see now, with 2 lamp holders.
