Blueberry in its regular version is one of the great classics in the Dutch Passion catalog and a fundamental piece of the legendary Blue Family. Introduced to the Dutch market in 1998 from DJ Short's original genetics, this variety earned its place in cannabis history with a 1st Prize at the High Times Cannabis Cup in 2000 and a 3rd Prize in 2001. As regular seeds, they produce both male and female plants (approximately 50/50), an option highly valued by those looking to work in breeding or select their own phenotypes.

Blueberry genetics and parentage

According to the official version from Dutch Passion, Blueberry is a triple cross combining an Afghan Indica with a Thai Sativa and an Oaxacan Sativa (Mexican). The exact detail of its lineage is not uniform across all sources, but the result is a markedly Indica-dominant hybrid (around 80% Indica / 20% Sativa), with a high THC content (approximately 19.5–20%) and low CBD levels. Its importance goes beyond the plant itself: Blueberry is the genetic base of numerous modern hybrids, such as Blue Dream or Blue Cookies, which explains why it remains so sought-after decades later.

Indoor and outdoor cultivation

Indoors, Blueberry has a flowering time of about 8–9 weeks and an approximate yield of 350–450 g/m². It's a medium-height plant with short internodal distances and dense, very resinous buds, making it suitable for SOG cultivation. A vegetative period of 4 to 6 weeks is recommended, with a total seed-to-harvest cycle of between 12 and 15 weeks.

Outdoors it's harvested in early to mid-autumn and can reach a large size, from 2.5 to 3 meters, developing attractive purple and bluish tones when nights cool down. It prefers a temperate, sunny, and airy climate to reduce mold risk. Bear in mind it's considered a medium-demanding difficulty variety: not the easiest for beginners and can be somewhat finicky, but rewards experienced growers handsomely, also standing out for its abundant resin, comparable to White Widow.

Aromas, flavors and effects

Blueberry's organoleptic profile is one of its greatest attractions. A sweet and very fruity aroma dominates, with that characteristic blueberry and forest fruit scent that gives the variety its name, accompanied by some earthy notes. On the palate it displays flavors of sweet blueberry, forest fruits and grape, described overall as an authentic fruity candy.

Despite its Indica predominance, the official source describes a balanced, clear and euphoric effect, far from an overly sedating or "couch-lock" high, with a pleasant pleasurable body sensation. It's a long-lasting and revitalizing effect that the official website associates with daytime or morning use due to its clear-headed high, although some distributors label it as more relaxing for end of day.
