Unlike conventional diploid plants, with two sets of chromosomes (2n), triploids have three (3n). This odd configuration prevents normal sexual reproduction, so the plant does not generate viable seeds even if it receives pollen during flowering.

It's important to clarify one point: these are not genetically modified organisms. Triploids are obtained by crossing a tetraploid line (4n), induced through classical plant breeding techniques, with a conventional diploid. It's the same principle that has been applied for decades in crops such as watermelon.

They are especially interesting for growers who have experienced an unwanted pollination: a hidden male, a neighbor with an outdoor crop or, increasingly common, nearby industrial hemp plantations that fill the air with pollen during flowering. With triploid genetics, that risk no longer ruins the harvest.

They also fit very well in outdoor and greenhouse grows, where controlling the environment is impossible, and in projects that require uniformity: being very uniform plants among themselves, they make space management, height control, and harvest scheduling easier.

Without seeds to handle or energy diverted to producing them, the plant concentrates its resources on generating resin, trichomes, and terpenes, which translates into a cleaner and more usable bud. According to the seed bank itself, their varieties offer between 15 and 30% more production than an equivalent diploid.
