Genetics and origin: a Californian classic in its purest form

Californian Orange, also known as Cali-O or Cali Orange Bud, wasn't born from a cross between two well-known varieties. Its lineage begins with a Californian landrace plant with an exceptional terpene profile, selected and stabilized by Dutch Passion through inbreeding since the eighties. The result is a 50/50 indica/sativa plant with its own genetic identity, exclusive to this Dutch seed bank. From this base, derivative varieties such as Orange Hill Special or Auto Daiquiri Lime were later born, proof of the solidity of this foundational genetics.

Cultivation: simple, generous and adaptable

In indoor cultivation, California Orange develops a compact structure of approximately 1 meter in height. Its flowering ranges between 8 and 10 weeks, with an average of about 9 weeks. The stretch during the flowering phase is moderate and concentrates mainly in the first two weeks. It adapts very well to hydroponics and the SOG technique, producing dense and compact central buds. Its indoor production ranges between 400 and 450 g/m² under optimal conditions, with ideal temperatures between 20 and 27°C. It should be noted that it's sensitive to light stress, so it's advisable to ensure proper sealing of the growing space. Under severe stress, it may show some hermaphrodite tendency, something to bear in mind especially in crops with unstable conditions.

Outdoors, this variety gives its best in dry and sunny climates, with the Mediterranean being its ideal environment. It reaches between 1 and 2 meters in height and is ready for harvest in early October. Under favorable conditions, it can yield between 250 and 500 grams per plant. Cool autumn nights can favor the appearance of striking chromatic tones in the leaves. It's not the most suitable option for humid climates or with frequent rainfall at the end of the season.

Aromas, flavors and effects: pure citrus, balanced experience

The aromatic profile of California Orange is its most recognizable calling card. Rich in myrcene and limonene, it releases an intense and penetrating aroma of ripe orange and mandarin from cultivation, with notes of fresh lemon and a slight earthy and skunk background that reveals its classic pedigree. Some phenotypes may add subtle floral or tropical notes. On the palate, the protagonist continues to be pure citrus: orange, mandarin and a soft earthy aftertaste that harks back to the first reference American hybrids. Its high resin production, present even in the leaves, also makes it an ideal candidate for producing concentrates such as hash or rosin.
