Drying & Curing Cannabis. Tutorial video

In this new Alchimia video tutorial we tell you how to dry and cure your cannabis. After trimming the buds, the drying and curing process is one of the most crucial steps to getting the highest quality cannabis, and here we show you some methods to optimise the final result from our home grow.

Transcript of video tutorial “Drying & Curing Cannabis" :

Today I'm going to show you how to dry and cure your cannabis plants in the best way.

We’re going to work with 2 Gorillas. One that we have here, and we’ve already cut the other one to work in a vertical dryer. We’ve broken the main bud apart to avoid moisture and possible moulds while drying, right? and we’ve left the lateral branches like this, with the stem, no Dani?

DANI - Exactly. We’ve left the stem on to dry it more slowly and prevent it from tasting harsh when it’s time to smoke it.

We’re going to leave them to go in the dryer later and this, we’re going to do is hang in the traditional way. We’ve got the clothes line here, I’m removing the sticks, I will also remove the main leaves, the large ones…

OK, I hold it, I cut it down here… and I try to hang it on this clothesline, knowing that it’s heavy.

DANI - Perfect…

Perfect, we’ll let it dry.

DANI - And the other one? Shall we go to the dryer?

Come on. Let’s go.

DANI - Let’s go.

This is the drying room. We have the vertical dryer here, we’ve already placed our Gorilla Glue on this shelf. As you can see, separating the buds so they dry well. We have these dryers in several sizes, in several diameters, it depends on your needs, but you can find all of them at alchimiaweb.com

This room will usually be dark, we’re filming now, and with a temperature that never exceeds 27ºC and humidity, right Dani? Of 50% or less. That's why we have the dehumidifier, and when we finish filming we'll leave it running.

DANI - We’ll leave it running, yes, yes!

Meanwhile I’ll place the Gelato on this shelf, separating the buds, and the ideal, right? is that it dries very slowly.

DANI -The idea is that it dries slowly because if it dries too quickly, it hurts the throat when we smoke, it irritates the throat a bit, right? So we dry it a little slower. When we take one of the twigs from the side branches and we can break it by hand, making a "crack" sound and it snaps rather than bending, like it does now with moisture, it will be ready for the curing process, which will be another 2 weeks. About 15 days of drying and about 15 days of curing.

Well, that’s it, we’ll put this in and then see how we cure.

After 15 days of drying, we need to cure. What is curing? Curing is to finish removing the moisture that remains in the more dense buds. After the usual drying, there is still humidity inside the bud that needs to be removed.

DANI - It must be removed, yes. If not it can cause mould…

And how we do it? There are several methods, including this type of box. It’s a hardwood box, in this case a Double Zero "00 BOX" that, apart from curing will also serve us, via this screen, to collect resin to make “00” Hash.

DANI -The trichomes that fall off the buds due to handling can be picked up with a card to make “00” hashish, which is where the name of the box itself comes from.

Exactly, apart from that it’s for curing as we said, and has several elements. This is a thermo-hygrometer, which will tell us at all times the relative humidity inside the box.

DANI - Aha!

And then we have these sponges here that if necessary, we can moisten them with water to raise the relative humidity in the box…

DANI - Although that's not normal, right Txus ? Usually you have to lower it, no?

Normally yes, normally… it’s more complicated to lower it.

DANI - Ok.

So, we close the box and we’ll see what the other method is.

DANI - Like we’ve always done, no?

Like we’ve always done!

DANI - In glass jars…

Glass jars such as this one. Here we have weed that’s already cured. It’s a glass jar that seals hermetically and serves us during the 15 days of curing, we are going to have to open and close the jar once a day so that it keeps removing humidity.

DANI - Exactly…

So, what happens? The humidity inside the jar is equalised throughout the weed, here inside when we open it...

DANI - It escapes, no?

It airs

DANI - Around 5 minutes every day, right?

More or less. We close it, put it in darkness and after 24 hours the same thing. This…

DANI - After 15 days we leave it closed.

That’s it. After 15 days the grass will be cured, with the perfect organoleptic properties for it’s consumption.

So, I’ll store it in the pantry so…

DANI - In the dark, no?

Yes, Yes. Always in darkness with low humidity, but anyway once it’s inside the jar it doesn’t matter. And hat’s it, all that’s left is to smoke the weed we’ve cured. Till next time!

DANI - The best! Thanks.

Ciao!

DANI - See you later, ciao!
