Psilocybe azurescens is one of the most potent psychedelic mushrooms known, due to its high concentration of psilocybin, psilocin, and baeocystin. They are a much more potent variety than the typical Psilocybe cubensis.
Psilocybes grown outdoors - a new way to grow mushrooms
It stands out for its ability to adapt to cold and humid climates, with ideal temperatures between 16-24°C during mycelial colonisation and about 7°C during fruiting. Cultivation requires a lot of patience, as it can take up to six months to produce mushrooms, making January and February the best times to start. It is essential to ensure a moist soil environment, away from direct sunlight, to promote healthy growth.
Outdoor Growing Guide
1. Initial preparation of the chips:
- Fill a plastic container with a lid with 1L of wood shavings.
- Add boiling water and cover the container.
- Let stand overnight to allow the shavings to cool and absorb the moisture.
- In the morning, drain off the excess water.
2. Inoculation of the mycelium:
- Open the Azurescens Bread and mix the contents with the wet shavings.
- Use a fork or similar tool to spread the mycelium evenly.
- Cover the shavings with wet cardboard.
- Replace the lid on the container, leaving it slightly open to allow the mycelium to breathe.
3. Colonisation:
- Place the container in a clean, controlled location for 1 month.
- The shavings should be completely covered with white mycelium before continuing.
4. Final preparation and transplanting:
- Prepare more shavings following the same hydration process.
- Mix the colonised shavings with the new shavings.
- Fill a cardboard box with this mixture.
- Bury the open box in a shady, moist area away from direct sunlight.
Optional:
Cover with 1 cm of moist soil to help maintain moisture and encourage the fruiting process.
