Genetics and origin of Skunk Special

This variety comes from the Red Skunk clones that circulated throughout the Netherlands in the late 80s and early 90s. According to Female Seeds, it is the result of several inbred Skunk S1 lines with 25% Automatic genetics, selected over several generations to preserve the essential characteristics of Skunk and achieve an especially fast flowering time. No specific cross of named parents is specified, as its family tree is simply summarized as Skunk x Skunk, within an indica/sativa hybrid classification.

Indoor and outdoor cultivation

Indoors, Skunk Special stands out for its flowering period of about 53 days (around 7.5 weeks), considered fast. It develops a powerful and robust structure, with thick and solid stems that support very compact and tight buds, topped by very striking red pistils that give it excellent bag appeal. It is a very stable and homogeneous plant, selected from several thousand specimens, so it shows hardly any variation between individuals. It appreciates plenty of light and far-red spectrum helps it reach its maximum yield. It is also suitable for greenhouse cultivation.

Outdoors, it behaves like a true productive beast in temperate or warm Mediterranean-type climates, with excellent trichome production. As a cultivation tip, the breeder recommends starting with light feeding and gradually increasing to avoid deficiencies and adjust nutrient supply to its rhythm.

Aromas, flavors and effects

On the aromatic front, Skunk Special is very penetrating, with a marked citrus character accompanied by the classic cat-piss smell so characteristic of old-school Skunk. On the palate it displays a skunk flavor with a slightly sweet touch and a pleasantly acidic finish, over smoke described as very clean.

Its effects combine a slightly relaxing physical aspect, which causes a pleasant tingling sensation, with a cerebral component that provides a pleasant head high. The result is a balanced experience between body and mind, true to the spirit of classic Skunks.
