Entonem is a nematode that targets a variety of pests, including fly larvae, thrips, and caterpillars. It releases a bacterium into the pest's body, transforming it into a food source for the nematode. This biological pest control product is now available at Alchimia.
Entonem by Koppert: Beneficial Nematodes for Your Cutivation
Entonem contains 50 million Steinernema feltiae nematodes in their developmental stage (third instar larvae). Each Entonem sachet consists of 86% Steinernema feltiae and 14% biodegradable inert material. Steinernema feltiae is an entomopathogenic nematode, a natural enemy of various pests. It remains effective at low temperatures, is water-soluble, and has a long shelf life, offering extended protection for your cultivation.
These nematodes release a symbiotic bacterium into the pest's body, converting its tissues into food. The nematodes then feed, grow, and reproduce inside the host, ultimately killing it within days or even hours after infection.
Entonem: A Natural Enemy of Flies, Thrips, Caterpillars, and More
Steinernema feltiae is effective against the following pests:
- Diptera (Fly larvae): soil flies (Lycoriella spp., Bradysia spp.), shore flies (Scatella spp.), and leafminers (Liriomyza spp.)
- Thysanoptera (thrips larvae and pupae): Including Western flower thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis)
- Coleoptera (Beetle larvae): Grapevine weevil (Otiorhynchus sulcatus) and other species like Otiorhynchus spp.
- Lepidoptera (Caterpillars): Tomato moth (Tuta), Oak processionary moth (Thaumetopoea processionea), Korscheltellus lupulina
- Noctuids: Armyworms (Spodoptera spp.), black cutworms (Spodoptera littoralis), cotton bollworm (Helicoverpa zea), tomato hornworm (Chrysodeixis chalcites), grey cutworm (Agrotis spp.), and Plusia (Autographa gamma)
- Mealybugs (Hemiptera): Banana tiger (Corythucha ciliata)
How to Apply Entonem by Koppert
Entonem is applied to the soil by watering or spraying. Before application, remove the product from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature (around 20°C) for 30 minutes. To apply, mix it with water at a temperature between 15-20°C and allow it to stand for five minutes. Shake the mixture well and pour it into a sprayer or irrigation system (with a minimum filter size of 0.5mm).
For 100 m2, you’ll need 0.5 million nematodes, requiring 1-2 liters of the mixture per m2. Water the area both before and after application, and keep the soil moist for a couple of weeks after treatment. Maintain a temperature between 8-33°C, and it’s recommended to apply in the late afternoon. If necessary, repeat the treatment 7-15 days later.
