Organic Oregano seeds, a gift from Nature
Oregano or origanum vulgare is one of the most popular aromatic plants in the world and particularly in the Mediterranean area. Used in cooking mainly as a condiment, this plant delights both the grower and the diner with its characteristic and intense fragrance.
It is a shrubby perennial plant that develops small mauve/pink flower clusters. This is the plant portion that is dried, ground and used in cooking. Besides its spectacular characteristics in terms of flavour and aroma, it is also attributed with tonic and digestive properties.
Rocalba oregano seeds, easy and productive cultivation
Although they can withstand frost, oregano seeds will germinate better at about 20°C. The germination takes place in 10 days. The plant needs a lot of sunlight and a well-drained soil but not waterlogged. It is usually sown in spring and harvested as it flowers, from July to September (northern hemisphere).
Oregano produces stubby shrubs of about 40-50cm high. It can be cultivated both in pots and in the open ground where it can grow without restrictions. Both branches and inflorescences gradually ramify as they grow, producing small leaves and flowers.
This plant can last 5-6 years. After this time it is recommended to renew oregano plants by germinating new seeds. The use of automatic irrigation systems is recommended, always avoiding over watering, as it could cause the roots to rot.
