Information on Snapdragon

Alchimia presents Snapdragon seeds by Rocalba, an herbaceous plant from the Mediterranean area that produces edible flowers with a mild flavour.

Snapdragon has a showy flowering, with brightly coloured flowers that develop in clusters. Flowering takes place from spring to autumn.

Snapdragon has a mild flavour with bitter mustard-like overtones and is used as a garnish for meat dishes.

For consumption, the flowers should be washed by soaking them in a bowl of water and then gently dried.

Antirrhinum cultivation, like most native Mediterranean flowers, does not require any special care. It is a plant that has little resistance to frost, and may not survive when it does occur, although this is not too dramatic as it is a biennial plant.

The origin of the name is curious (Antirrhinum), of Greek root meaning "as if it had a nose" (anti-like and rhinon-nose). In addition to this name, the Antirrhinum is known by countless other common names: Abrebocas, becerra, boca de dragón or de león, cabeza de ternera, conejetes, dragoncillos, flor de la mortaja, flor del desengaño, flor de sapo, gallitos, garganta de lobo, gatos, morro de lobo, muerte de español, muerte de italiano, muerte de portugués, muerte galana, perritos, pirigallo, san juanes, zapaticos de la Virgen or zapaticos del Niño Jesús among others but not so curious.
