Alchimia Grow Shop presents Rocalba Cinnamon Basil Seeds, an aromatic plant with a sweet cinnamon aroma. A variety that we can cultivate both in a pot and in open ground in our vegetable garden.
Cinnamon Basil Seeds, enhances tomatoes, peppers and courgettes cultivations
Cinnamon Basil (Ocimum basilicum) is an annual herbaceous plant belonging to the Laminaceae family. It is native to Central America, and is notable for a fleshy, lobed and very aromatic leaves, which emanate a sweet aroma very similar to that of cinnamon.
It can be germinated both in a seedbed (recommended) and in direct sowing in the ground, in a planting frame of 25cm x 25cm, or cultivated among tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, aubergines, and courgettes plants. This encourages their development and prevents the attack of whitefly, aphids, mosquitoes, oidium and mildew.
Ideally, scatter a few seeds in a seedbed with soil and worm humus. Then cover them with 0.3mm of soil and place it in a place with sunlight and a temperature of at least 15ºC. The first sprouts emerge after about 10-15 days, and can be separated into individual pots after 30 days. When they have developed 3-5 pairs of leaves, in about 45 days, they can be transplanted into the final pot or garden (mid-spring).
Rocalba Cinnamon Basil, with fleshy and very aromatic leaves
It is an annual plant, which does not tolerate cold or frost. It must be sown every year. It prefers a sunny climate with temperatures between 20-30ºC, adapting well to sun and shade in regions with very hot summers.
It needs constant but moderate water and well-drained soils that do not cause water-logging but do not allow it to dry out. Installing a drip or automatic irrigation system will ensure that the water requirements are perfectly covered.
The plant leaves are ready to harvest in summer and autumn, cutting them with a scissors and then leaving the plant to recover so as not to exhaust it. In this way, we can enjoy its delicious exotic and cinnamon aroma throughout the season.
