Paul Robeson tomato, an old Russian variety
The Paul Robeson tomato is an old variety from Russia, named in tribute to the opera singer who advocated for equal rights between Black and white people. It is also known as the Paul Robison or Paul Robson tomato. This variety was introduced by a collector from Moscow, Marina Danilenko.
Paul Robeson black tomato, dense and sweet flesh
The Paul Robeson tomato is an indeterminate variety, classified as a black tomato.
Paul Robeson fruits are reddish-brown, ribbed, and slightly flat, weighing between 150-400g. They have dense flesh with a slightly spicy sweetness.
Under certain water stress conditions, they may be prone to cracking.
Sow in spring once the risk of frost has passed, and transplant when they have two pairs of true leaves, maintaining a 50cm distance between bushes.
