Alchimia presents Marigold seeds by Rocalba, an edible flowering plant very common in yards and gardens, both indoors and outdoors. This is due to its beautiful colour that decorates gardens, and also to the well-known beneficial properties of its flowers.
Marigold offers a spicy flavour in its petals that makes it perfect for breads, soups and tea. It is also used as a body and cooking oil. Also used extensively in gastronomy to flavour vinegar, and is ideal for mixed salads. Dried petals are an economical alternative to saffron, both for adding colour and aroma to rice and for elaborating butter.
For consumption, the flowers should be washed by immersing them in a container of water and then gently drying them.
Among its great attributes are treatment of wounds and burns, improvement of oral health and help on hypoglycaemic and hypertensive conditions.
In addition to the Marigold's therapeutic properties, it is also an allopathic plant, i.e. it protects the garden from insects such as nematodes, slugs and horn worms.
It is an easy plant to grow both indoors and outdoors, with a preference for warm and temperate climates. It also withstands frosts down to -4 degrees. It requires good light exposure and regular watering with 2-3 irrigations per week.
