Information on Aphidalia

Aphidalia by Koppert: the ladybug that works for you against aphids

If you grow outdoors or have trees in your garden or orchard, you'll know how quickly an aphid colony can get out of control. Aphidalia, from Koppert Biological Systems, is a biological control solution based on live larvae of Adalia bipunctata —the well-known two-spotted ladybug— that feeds on aphids naturally, effectively and without resorting to chemical products. A discreet ally that works for you from the moment you release it.

How does Aphidalia work?

Aphidalia's mode of action is as elegant as it is effective. The larvae you receive start feeding on aphids as soon as they come into contact with them, consuming them completely. But the story doesn't end there: the adults that emerge from those larvae also actively prey on aphids and lay their eggs within the same infested colonies. This means that Aphidalia not only attacks the present problem, but also generates a new generation of predators directly where they're needed most, maximizing control without you having to do anything else.

Easy application, visible results

Using Aphidalia couldn't be simpler. Open the paper bag and attach it to the tree —with a nail or piece of wire— near the first branch. From there, the larvae do their work. The recommended dose is 1 bag per 25 cm of trunk diameter, with a maximum of 3 bags per tree. The important thing is to act as soon as you detect the first aphids: the sooner you introduce the predators, the better the result will be. Aphidalia is most effective at temperatures between 15 and 30 °C, making it perfectly suited to spring and summer conditions in Spain.

Compatible with your IPM strategies

Aphidalia fits perfectly into any Integrated Pest Management (IPM) plan. Bear in mind that some chemical pesticides can negatively affect the larvae and adults of Adalia bipunctata, so we recommend you check the compatibility of your treatments before applying the product. The Koppert One – Side Effects tool allows you to check which pesticides are compatible with Aphidalia so you can optimize your strategy without compromising the effectiveness of biological control.

Product storage and handling

As a living organism, Aphidalia requires careful handling. Apply it as soon as possible after receipt. If you need to store it, you can keep it for a maximum of 1 to 2 days in the refrigerator, between 8 and 10 °C, in darkness. Don't expose it to extreme temperatures or direct light during storage, as you could compromise the viability of the larvae.

Who is Aphidalia ideal for?

Aphidalia is the perfect solution if you're looking for environmentally friendly aphid control, without chemical residues and compatible with organic farming. Specially designed for fruit trees, ornamentals or any tree species affected by aphid colonies, it allows you to act naturally and efficiently from day one.
