Alchimiaweb is glad to present Rocalba Borage (Borago Officinalis), organic seeds, a beautiful aromatic plant with blue flowers suitable for both orchard and pot cultivation.

Rocalba Borage: decorative, edible and beneficial

Borago Officinalis comes originally from Syria and it is notable for its ease of cultivation. It is a plant that reaches 60cm high quickly without too many nutritional requirements.

It is a very beneficial plant in the orchard as it attracts bees and other beneficial insects which stimulate pollination. At the same time, it takes care of the hives by exercising a plant and insect symbiosis. Certainly we must have it in our cultivation to maximise our harvest of other plants and vegetables.

It is a beautiful and colourful ornamental plant, with a quick flowering sown in fertilised soil. This plant can also be eaten using the leaves in salads or the stems in stews, soups, sauces, pasta or even infusions. The flowers are also edible, being used to decorate desserts, drinks or to provide colour to our cold dishes.

Borage, a diuretic, expectorant and anti-inflammatory plant

It offers expectorant, diuretic, anti-inflammatory and emollient properties. It is also very useful for treating bumps, stings, rashes and bruises.

Using the leaves to make tea helps to treat colds, softening coughs and throat irritation and expanding the bronchi and reducing fever.

This plant is cultivated between March and May, but can also be grown in February indoors or in a greenhouse to be transplanted later into open ground or larger pots. A few seeds are buried superficially in damp soil leaving 10cm between each seeds group to ensure they have enough space to develop.
