Recipe of cannabis sweets
List of contents
Eating is an excellent way to consume weed, either for your well-being or recreationally. This method of consumption avoids the damage caused by combustion (and any potential mixing with tobacco), resulting in a longer-lasting effect than combustion.
In this article, we'll explain how to make cannabis sweets that can be easily preserved using clarified butter, the preparation of which we'll explain below.
Clarified cannabis butter
Butter is composed primarily of lipids, but also contains a small amount of protein (casein) and carbohydrates (lactose). Clarifying butter allows us to recover the fatty portion, which is essential for extracting cannabinoids from the cannabis plant. This very easy-to-use technique will allow us to concentrate more active ingredients in the butter, but, above all, will improve its resistance to heat and storage.
Here's how to do it:
- Use soft butter, if possible (unsalted)
- Melt the butter over low heat (or in a double boiler)
- Remove the white foam that appears on the surface (mainly casein and milk protein) with a spoon.
- Continue the operation until no foam remains.
- Transfer the liquid butter to another container, taking care to leave the solid particles (buttermilk) at the bottom of the pan, or remove them with the help of a coffee filter.
Only the yellow, oily part, composed of fatty acids, should remain. It's worth noting that clarified butter, also known as ghee, can also be purchased at some supermarkets or grocery stores. All that remains is to transform the clarified butter into clarified cannabis butter. It's important to remember that cannabinoids like THC and CBD are soluble in fats, just like oil and butter, but not in water (or in negligible amounts).
Preparing clarified cannabis butter
In our example, we will use clarified butter, using 250 grams and following this recipe:
- Heat approximately 1 L of water.
- Add 30 to 100 grams of cannabis (depending on the quality and potency of the material used)
- Heat for a few minutes and discard this initial cooking water to eliminate much of the chlorophyll, which will ensure a sweeter flavor.
- Replace 1 L of water with the weed and add the clarified butter.
- Let it simmer for about two hours, stirring regularly.
- Remove from heat and strain the liquid through an ice-o-lator bag or a clean cloth bag.
- Firmly squeeze the ball of weed through the filter to recover the butter trapped inside the plant material.
- Use oven mitts (or something else) to avoid burning your hands!
- Cool the liquid in the refrigerator.
- After approximately 24 hours, the butter will form a solid crust on the surface, which can be easily removed with a flat knife.
- Excess water will have to be thrown away.
Potency and quality of the butter
The quality and potency of the butter will depend largely on the plant material used. Large leaves contain little resin and a lot of chlorophyll, so they're not a good choice. Avoid using stems, as they impart an unpleasant taste. Generally, small leaves from buds covered in resin, visible to the naked eye, or low-quality buds are used: flowers harvested too early, with a root-flush period too short, with seeds inside the buds, or small buds with many leaves.
To obtain the highest quality butter, you can also use beautiful cannabis buds, even trichome extractions. In this case, the butter will be highly concentrated in active ingredients. Do not use weed that contains mold or plant material that has been sprayed with pesticides during the flowering phase. For an alternative use, it is possible to use cannabis strains with a THC/CBD ratio close to 1:1; these will have greater therapeutic potential and more limited psychoactivity.
Cannabis sweets recipe
To prepare these sweets, we will use:
- 300 g powdered sugar
- 200g of chocolate (dark or milk)
- 200 gr of marshmallows
- 150 ml (200g) sweetened condensed milk
- 120 gr of cannabis butter
- Liquid vanilla extract can also be added to nuts, almonds, hazelnuts, and seeds
This recipe contains a lot of sugar, so it is not recommended for diabetics or others who need to limit their blood sugar levels.
Here is the procedure for cannabis candies:
- Grease a silicone mold with a little cannabis butter
- Cut the chocolate and marshmallows into small pieces
- In a saucepan, heat the cannabutter, sugar, and condensed milk over medium heat and stir constantly until boiling.
- Reduce the heat to low and continue stirring for approximately 2 minutes.
- Remove from heat and add the chocolate, marshmallows, and vanilla.
- Make sure the mixture is not boiling during this stage.
- Continue mixing until smooth.
- Place the mixture in the silicone mold and store it in the refrigerator.
- A few hours later, unmold the result and cut it into cubes or strips of the desired size.
- And finally, all that remains is to enjoy!

How to consume cannabis sweets
Since the potency of these cannabis candies depends on the material used (quantity and quality ), the efficiency of the cannabinoid extraction, and the user's tolerance, unfortunately, we can't give you a precise dosage. Therefore, the simplest rule is to start by consuming a tiny amount of candy and wait at least an hour to notice the effect.
If that's not enough, gradually increase your dose until you find the ideal dosage, always waiting at least an hour between doses to avoid unpleasant side effects. You can also try a small, well-defined amount of butter, say 1 or 2 grams, on a slice of bread and experiment to estimate and test the potency of your cannabis recipes based on the amount of butter used to make the desserts.
We remind you that it's very important to keep these cannabis-infused treats out of the reach of children (and pets). Don't forget that, when taken orally, the effects of cannabis begin between 15 and 60 minutes after ingestion and last approximately 6 to 8 hours.
Therefore, it is necessary to be very cautious, especially for those who are not used to weed.
