The world of cannabinoid extractions is in a golden age, these days more and more users are switching from the combustion of flowers to the vaporisation of resin concentrates. The main reason for this change is to avoid inhaling smoke and its harmful derivatives, and instead to vaporise, obtaining a medicinal effect free of impurities and contaminants.

This last option is very handy, especially at home since it requires electricity to heat the unit and control the vaping temperature.

There are also vaporizers for resins and concentrates ready to vaporize this type of extracts, even though we must admit that, while in some cases they are excellent, the quality achieved does not match the one you get with a dab at the proper, accurate temperature.

Puffco Peak, the portable solution for dabbing

Puffco managed to find a solution to this problem with the development of a new portable vaporizer that allows dabbing concentrates while retaining all the quality. Puffco Peak is a 100% portable e-nail powered by an internal battery.

Puffco is a company founded in 2013 by Roger Voladarsky, an expert in cannabis extracts who was not satisfied with any of the available options within the range of vaporizers for oils and concentrates; he couldn't find a device with a heating and water cooling system, and without any plastic parts the vapour must go through before being inhaled.

Engineered and designed in Brooklyn, it's the perfect solution for dabbing at any time and place in a quick and efficient manner. The device includes a battery-fuelled heating system that allows the ceramic nail to reach the desired temperature very fast, as well as a bubbler of the best quality. In short, everything you need to make the most of your cannabis extracts wherever you are. With The Peak Puffco has taken the essence of the old style e-nails and recreated it in a stylish, elegant option that's easy to use, small in size and forgoes the need to buy a bubbler or pipe in addition to the e-nail itself.

Puffco Peak Features

With a small size of just 18 x 8cm (6,5cm at the base), the Puffco Peak is a vaporizer for concentrates that can be easily carried anywhere. It comes with a shockproof case for storage that fits in any bag or backpack, and it's compact and easily transportable. Its design is very distinctive and is very simple to use, as the heating options are pre-set to deliver perfect concentrate vaporisation every time.

The Peak is programmed with 4 pre-set temperatures that the user can select according to their preferences. The lower the power, the longer the session and on the contrary, the more power, more vapour but with a shorter duration of battery. Temperatures are displayed on a colour scale: green (450ºF), blue (500ºF), red (550ºF), white (600ºF). The flavours are best appreciated with green, the blue setting gives more vapour and quite a powerful flavour, red is ideal to create a nice thick vapour and we can use the white setting to get really heavy, dense vapour clouds.

It heats up in just 20 seconds, making it highly appreciated by even the most demanding users, as other e-nails can take up to 3 minutes to warm up. It has an intelligent temperature calibration system which means we don't have to wait for it to cool down to use it again, offering the possibility of long, non-stop dab sessions without having to wait for the e-nail to cool down between hits.

Instead of shutting down completely when not in use, this smart Rig goes into standby mode so it can be kept on without running the battery down, although it is always recommendable to turn it off if when you've finished the session. The battery, located at the bottom of the unit, can be charged via USB or directly through the mains, thanks to the included charger. When the battery is fully charged, something that takes two hours, it lasts for about 30 dabs, more than enough for a good dabbing session. The finishes are impeccable and give the device a sleek and sturdy look, partly due to its weight (365g), which also improves unit stability.

Using the E-Nail Puffco The Peak

Using the Puffco Peak is very simple. First fill the bubbler with fresh and clean water just above the two small air-holes; if you fill it too much, the draft won't be all that good, and you could inhale a little bit of water. The bubbler is made of borosilicate glass, and is easily removable from the body of the vaporiser.

Now, using a dabber, take a dab of the concentrate to be vaporised and turn the e-nail on, setting the temperature with the button situated at the base of The Peak. Now wait 20 seconds for it to warm up and we can begin to vaporise the cannabis extract. Personally, I recommend the first two (blue and green), as they provide dense clouds of vapour with an absolutely delicious taste.

The ceramic bowl is large and works just as well for small dabs as for large quantities, depending on the users tastes, and meaning that you can get huge dense clouds of steam, or if you want to share then there's no need to re-fill the concentrate between hits.

The bowl can be covered with the carb cap that comes incorporated into the Puffco Peak, permitting low-temp dab sessions for better savouring the terpenes and appreciating the flavours. Once the session is finished you can switch it off and give it a good clean to maintain it in an optimal state.

Cleaning your Puffco Peak

The great majority of the vaporisers parts can be disassembled for easy, convenient cleaning. The bowl, the screen and the bubbler are the principal elements that must be kept in good condition to enjoy great tasting, high quality vapour hits.

Isopropyl alcohol can be a great help to clean the glass bubbler and ceramic bowl, always ensuring that any alcohol residue of is cleaned out of all parts of the vaporiser before using it, as it is a highly flammable product. We also recommend cleaning the ceramic bowl after each dab with cotton swabs. Any residues left are very easy to remove with the help of residual heat (you can moisten the swab with alcohol if necessary when the nail is cold). If the bowl is very dirty (something you shouldn't allow to happen), another effective option is heating it with, for example, a Dunkees blow torch before cleaning.

Changing the water used for cooling and filtering the vapour is very simple, simply tip the bong upside down to pour out the used water and re-fill with fresh, clean water. It's advisable to clean the Puffco Peak unit after every use to keep all the components ready for the next session, which will result in a longer lifetime and a fantastic vaping experience. You can use Chaz Busters cotton swabs, which are specially designed for this purpose (the traditional swabs made of plastic could damage the unit).

Puffco Peak portable case

The Peak comes with a travel case to transport it without problems and to safeguard the borosilicate glass parts at all times, which could be susceptible to breakage if unprotected. The padded case means here is no need to worry during while carrying our Puffco Peak wherever we go.

The battery offers an autonomy of 30 dabs which makes sure we will have the day covered with a single battery, and in case that's still not enough, it only takes two hours to charge up again.

Puffco Peak Accessories

Apart from the spare parts for the vaporizer itself (atomizer, ceramic nail, loading tool...), Puffco puts at your disposal a set of accessories specially designed for the Peak, such as the Puffco Peak Glass replacement bubbler. On top of that, and given the success and quality of this device, other companies have also made parts designed to further improve the Puffco Peak dabbing experience.

Without a doubt, and bearing in mind the portable nature of this unit, one of the accessories we most recommend is the Puffco Peak travel kit, consisting of three attachments. A splash cap to prevent water from escaping through the mouthpiece when the bubbler is full, a flexible tether to keep the carb cap always handy, and a small compartment to store the cotton swabs and the dab tool.

It is also possible to replace the flat carb cap for a directional one, in order to improve the vaporization and to obtain denser and tastier vapour clouds. Puffco also offers an excellent range of different spare bubblers and carb caps so you can customize your vaporizer.

Although Puffco doesn't offer other types of nails, you can find good alternatives from other brands and materials, such as quartz, ruby or sapphire. Nevertheless, remember that the Puffco Peak vaporizer has been designed with the ceramic nail in mind, so a different material may cause variations in the device's preset temperatures.
